Dear President Bush, Myself and others would like you to please
not take the Pledge of Allegiance out of schools, nor take the words
"under God" out of the pledge. Most Americans, whether religious or
not, probably feel that the appeal court's decision of removing the
pledge is too harsh. If you start removing anything, which mentions
God, you will have to remove much of what America was founded upon.
Our currency has "In God We Trust" on it, and "So help me God" is in
the pledge taken by new Presidents. "God Bless America" and "America
the Beautiful" are beloved patriotic songs which mention God, and
the Declaration of Independence refers to God four different times.
Congress begins each day with prayer, and the U.S. Supreme Court
begins each session with the phrase "God save the United States and
this honorable court." God has had a major impact on America's
history, and whether we recognize it or not, He will have a major
impact on America's future. In the Bible, Psalms 33:12 says,
"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." Since the Bible was
removed from the classroom in 1963, there has been a 560% increase
in violent crimes, 400% increase in juvenile arrests, 400% increase
in teen pregnancies, and a 200% increase in teen suicides. Something
is wrong when drug-addicted teens are walking our schools hallways,
but God is being expelled. The Pledge of Allegiance is a solemn
promise of loyalty that we make to our country whenever we recite
it. It is a shame that it may be removed from the classroom and that
children may soon not be able to hear God used in the Pledge of
Allegiance and other American documents, poems, and songs. However,
they can hear His name used in vain as a by-word in schools and on
television many times a day. Thank you for reading this. Please take
into consideration the things which have been stated above.
